With echoes of 60s band The Turtles' hit 'Happy Together' and a European indie boppy feel, the debut single from this Reading/Swedish band is ready to make a decent dent in the Brtish charts. With a certain anxiety truly communicated about the title's fictitious Ray character, nothing much is communicated about why Ray is in so much trouble except a few vague wails that 'the future's out to get you'. Happily poppy with a singer/songwriter feel to it, to then have the song robbed of any complex lyrics does leave you feeling slightly robbed. At times the vocals soar to Sharleen Spitari imitation, and the simple song is nicely held together by the band's musicianship, but to have an angsty song without actual stated angst seems to be missing the point somewhat. Fun, but a little short on the delivery.
