The Queens hitmaker recently mended fences with Lil' Kim, with whom he's seemingly had a love/hate relationship over the years, and last week leaked their newest collaboration, "Wanna Lick." The song is the first record from the upcoming G-Unit album Shoot to Kill, which drops in mid-December.
"I'm not good at resolving things," 50 said on Sunday afternoon on the set of the video for his collaboration with Akon, "I'll Still Kill." (Note: The title will be changed to "I Still Will" for television purposes.) "Once I get into an altercation with someone or we have a misunderstanding, I'd rather leave them over there rather than have them around when they still have those feelings."
A few years ago, 50 created "Magic Stick" for Kim's La Bella Mafia LP, which was a smash on the street level. But a video for the song was never filmed, harsh feelings ensued and the two slung disses back and forth on various records and interviews.
50 says that's all water under the bridge.
"I reached out to her, called her, to see where her head was at," Fif said. "In Kim's case, it wasn't me and Kim [who had the real beef]. It was Kim and the man she was with at the time. Later, we was able to actually get together and collaborated. We was able to make something special again with 'Wanna Lick.' It's good. From a female perspective, she can provide an aggressive standpoint and be aggressive for the women while I can be myself and be aggressive from a man's perspective."
One of the most impressive things about "Walk Away," the new single from Kelly Clarkson, is that this is the 5th single from her smash album Breakaway. By this time, typically, the artist is beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel to wrestle one last hit. This single is one of the best songs from the album.
After spawning 4 major top 10 singles ("Breakaway," "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," and "Because of You") and spending 60 weeks in the top 20 of the pop albums chart, you might expect the album Breakaway to be running out of steam, but then along comes the 5th single "Walk Away." It is a pop-rock anthem that may not quite reach the status of "Since U Been Gone" but rivals any of the album's other singles in quality.
"Walk Away" is one of 5 collaborations with studio MVP Kara DioGuardi from the album and the first to be released as a single. DioGuardi has become one of the most sought after songwriter/producers playing key roles on hits from Ashlee Simpson's "Pieces of Me" to Lindsay Lohan's "Confessions of a Broken Heart." For additional insurance Canadian couple Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida, frequent Avril Lavigne collaborators, assisted on "Walk Away."
Kelly Clarkson is arguably the most talented vocalist and song interpreter DioGuardi has worked with, and she drives home the song's insistence on romantic commitment with grit and style. Clarkson has said "Walk Away" is her Annie Lennox-type song, and her singing here does bear some resemblance to Lennox' gut-bucket approach to rock-oriented songs, particularly in a nearly a capella passage just past the song's midpoint. Look for this single to be in the pop top 10 soon.

GLAM... I suppose it was the next logical step for A&R pilferers My Chemical Romance.
But this is glam filtered through the Manic Street Preachers and chorus line cabaret. It's musically clichéd and lyrically a tad dubious - while the cover purports a message that "Violence is never the answer", the lyrical content (in particular the implication that "what you got under your shirt" will make the classmates who call you names "pay for the things that they did") providing an easily adaptable anthem for both sides depending on which lines you choose to shout the loudest.
Which, for a song intended to berate violence, seems something of a remarkably dangerous failing.

A song about breaking up with your loved one and the sadness that comes with that, this is a very mellow sounding, subdued pop record. Robyn's voice is incredibly sweet and sugary, and the electronic beats and bleeps recall some of Kylie Minogue's more danceable hits.
Yes, but mostly because of the fact that she repeats the same lyrics over and over and over and over again, than it being a memorable song in general. As with most dance tunes, the song doesn't really go anywhere which is a real shame. It sounds the same all the way through.
It'll be all over the radio for the rest of the summer, no doubt about it.

It's a slice of reggae-pop minimalism for summer 2007. Kingston's debut single welds a simple lyric onto heavily sampled instrumental tracks from Ben E. King's classic "Stand By Me." Sean Kingston's somewhat unpolished nasally vocals could wear thin quickly or "Beautiful Girls" may be just what you need for a singalong with the top down on the convertible on the way to the beach. I'm giving the teenager the benefit of the doubt and leaning to the latter category.
17-year-old Jamaican-born Sean Kingston has a strong music pedigree. His uncle is reggae artist Buju Banton, and his grandfather was a reggae producer. "Beautiful Girls" is reminiscent of Akon's helium-voiced reworking of Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely" 2 years ago that landed him in the pop mainstream with the top 5 hit "Lonely." Instead of borrowing from Bobby Vinton, Sean Kingston takes the work of another early rock icon, Ben E. King, and sculpts the instrumental track for "Beautiful Girls" by borrowing heavily from "Stand By Me."
This is the first time in my recollection that the word "suicidal" has been put so obviously front and center in a mainstream pop song. It works here, and it doesn't seem nearly as startling as it might have if Rihanna had not equated cheating on a lover with murder on her hit "Unfaithful." Those "beautiful girls" can be rough on a guy's ego!
The melody of "Stand By Me" is indeed classic, and Sean Kingston has an appealing, fresh-faced approach. You just might find yourself singing "su-i-cidal" all summer long.
Pretty sure we used "What's he gonna sample next, Feist?!" as an LOL punchline at some point, but as we saw at the Emmys, Kanye's good at bringing himself in on the joke. This particular cool points quest isn't Graduation-related, though: Twista got West to cook up beats for his just-released Adrenaline Rush 2007 LP, but ended up using the Kanye cut as a bonus track. Pretty lazy sample 'n' paste job on West's part, but here it is: Kanye sampling Feist's "Gatekeeper" from Let It Die on Twista's "Well It's Time."
So, we readjust: What's he gonna sample next, Grizzly Bear?! LOL. (And if that happens, insert the National. One step ahead.)
While Young Buck's 'gangsta' hasn't been questioned, doubters of his commercial appeal can give it a rest, too.
After a steady stream of street material with Whoo Kid and DJ Drama, Buck primes listeners for his Buck The World sophomore set by reaffirming his affinity for club numbers and trunk rattlers. As Polow Da Don gives his best Timbaland impersonation with booming horns and space whirs, Buck's charismatic baritone and measured flow should keep heads nodding and offer a friendly alternative to a presumably tougher LP.
Once again, Common has teamed up with fellow Chicagoan and producer extraordinaire, Kanye West, for his newest single, "The People."
Few things could be more refreshing for the summer than a new single from Common. For those who were hungry for some new stuff after 2005's Be, this single is a tasty appetizer before the main course. In the space of a three-minute and thirty-one second track, Common rhymes about survival, enlightenment, a Grammy Awards snub, and a chance encounter with Stevie Wonder. No region is excluded as he represents globally and locally: "From Inglewood to a single hood in Botswana...Standing in front of the judge with no honor/I'm about to ignite the people like Obama."
Lyrics on the races' priorities and "the struggle" have the potential to be polarizing and self-righteous. That aside, "The People" is sure to leave fans eager with anticipation.

We still care about "Young Folks" and everything, but holy shit, this actually happened. As previously reported, rapper Kanye West asked Swedish pop group Peter Bjorn and John to play as his backing band for a performance at Gothenburg, Sweden's Way Out West Festival. They accepted. The other day, worlds finally collided.
The result still sounds like the version on Kanye's mixtape. And the video quality is necessarily poor. Still, the success of "Young Folks" was one of last year's most pleasant surprises. But a celebrity collab like this? Kanye's right: we had no idea.

I’ve seen a lot of stupid music videos and listened to some very asinine songs over the years, but nothing could prepare me for the monstrosity of “Lip Gloss.” I was sitting down, getting ready to watch some of my favorite channel (MTV Jams), this song came on. At first I thought that Pharrell had rounded up his two lovers and decided to reshoot a video for Grindin’, but I should have known something was terribly wrong when there was a Ford Taurus on the tv…
For those of you that aren’t privy to being hip and up to date with the beats of today’s urban youth, Lip Gloss is the shit. See, being the shit is slang for being really awesome. However I tend to think the older meaning of the word is a more accurate description of Lil Mama and her song. From wikipedia:

I don’t want to dwell too much on the song since this is a music video review, but it is really stupid, and I am not using “stupid” in the same manner that the Fresh Prince used “stupid”. There’s about 10 words that are repeated over a beat that could only be described as generic. I am surprised that something like this could pass as “music” these days, but it’s not that much of a stretch if Fergie reciting the alphabet can produce hit singles left and right.
In the video, Lil Mama gets dropped off at her school in a fat phat Taurus when she pines to her mother(?) that she wishes she could be one of the cool kids. “Don’t worry my dear,” says Lil Mama’s Mother, “take this lip gloss.” (Who would be Lil’ Grandmama? Or just Regular Mama? Or maybe it could be Martin Lawrence in a fat suit?) Of course when Lil Mama puts on her lip gloss she immediately undergoes a metamorphosis and becomes the pinnacle of coolness.
Lil Mama decides that she’s going to need a posse if she’s going to continue walking around looking like someone out of an Old Navy commercial and “fairy godmothers” 3 members of the nerd herd into hotties. Then they start to dance around in the hallways and so does everyone else. Typical fair for a music video.
As stupid as this song is, it’s not as bad as that Chicken Noodle Soup song. I still wake up in a cold sweat sometimes and think about how people thought that that was something worth listening too. DJ Webstar pulled a fast one on everyone with that song.
I did like the flip book in the video. It reminded me of when I created a little flip book in the corner of my AP History book that featured a stick figure killing a fat guy, you know, like those Xiao Xiao flash movies. Mr. Foster I loved your class, but honestly, there was nothing you could teach me about history. Years later people would tell me that they used my book in that same class and noticed the little flip book and got a kick out of it. It’s probably been about a decade since I’ve used the book, so it is most likely no longer in circulation, because people would probably think that I would pull a Cho Seung-Hui based on it.

Lil Mama’s lip gloss is so fab that it attracts the attention of her principal who really wants to know where she could pick up some. Coincidentally, the principal looks like this lady I used to work with who smelled like pickles every day. Not really relevant, just thought I’d share that. Then some people double dutch and start jumping really high and xbox 360. The end.
If I could sum up this song and video in one word… it would be… “stup”… “not good”. Okay that’s two words, but that is what I’m going with.
